Smile Again Periodontics and Implant Dentistry

Technology

At our periodontist's office in Temple City, CA, we invest in dental technology because it's an investment in your comfort and well-being. Whenever Dr. Hsu learns about a new type of leading-edge equipment, he first determines how it will benefit his patients. He then brings it into his practice when he knows it will improve your experience and enhance our ability to deliver exceptional results.

Please take a few moments to browse through some of the latest technology we offer, call us with your questions, or schedule an appointment.

PerioLase®MVP-7™ to perform the LANAP® protocol

The LANAP protocol uses the PerioLase®MVP-7™ dental laser to regenerate the tissues and bone lost to gum disease. It is the only FDA Cleared treatment protocol for True Bone Regeneration.  Dr. Hsu has completed intensive training required by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry to become certified in the LANAP technique.

Traditional periodontal therapy involves surgery and a significant recovery period for patients.  Another disadvantage is the resulting gum recession that is often unesthetic.

LANAP treatment provides an alternative that is minimally invasive, without the need for cutting or sutures.  Patients recover more quickly and with less discomfort.  There is minimal to no gum recession.

Learn more about where we use this technology:

3-D Cone Beam Computed Tomograhy (CBCT)

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a 3-D digital imaging technology that has changed the way specialists and dentists diagnose and treat many dental problems.

Using advanced 3-D CBCT allows Dr. Hsu to precisely plan your implant surgery by identifying the ideal location within the jawbone to place it. Cone beam CT allows Dr. Hsu to visualize anatomical structures inside your mouth, such as root canals, sinuses, and nerve pathways, in 3-D without surgery.

These detailed CBCT images are invaluable because we can ensure that your implant is placed correctly and to avoiding nerves, sinuses, and areas of low bone density.

Intraoral Scanner (Digital Impressions)

Taking traditional dental impressions can be time-consuming and is often an uncomfortable process for the patient. With our leading-edge intraoral scanner, we can quickly scan your teeth to provide an extremely accurate, highly detailed 3-D virtual model of your teeth—with no messy impression material.

With your virtual dental impression displayed on your chairside monitor, Dr. Hsu can show you an interactive record of your mouth. You become a part of the process, and we have a highly accurate rendition of your teeth that we use for treatment planning purposes and to keep as part of your dental history.

Guided Surgery

By combining CBCT images with digital impression data, we are able to design a customized guide for your implant treatment.  A guide allows us to perform your procedure as safely and accurately as possible.

Oral Sedation

Almost 30% of the population avoids going to the dentist due to fear.  Oral sedation is our way of providing a safe, non-judgmental, and pain-free experience to those who need help dealing with their anxiety.  Another benefit is that treatment can be accomplished in minimal visits with little memory of the procedures.  Ask us if this is right for you!

Digital Records and Forms

At Smile Again Periodontics, we use digital records to store your vital medical and periodontal history. All your information is safe and securely stored on our private in-house network. When Dr. Hsu or his dental team needs to refer to your record, it is immediately available to them at the touch of a button. Storing your information this way also makes it convenient to share your details with your dentist or insurance company electronically as needed.

For your convenience, we also offer online forms, online treatment planning, and online pay.   Reminders are automated and you have access to two-way text messaging through our main phone line.

Digital X-rays

Using digital x-rays, our periodontist can view a highly detailed image of your teeth, gums, and jawbone that he wouldn't be able to see with a visual examination alone. Patient safety is always a concern for us, and using low-dose digital x-rays reduces radiation exposure by about 80 percent compared to film x-rays.

Digital x-rays are also interactive because we can share them with you easily on your chairside monitor so you can understand what the problem is and the benefit of treating it.
